Does Class A, AB or D Matter?
Topology shapes how an amplifier runs, not whether it can sound superb. Class A keeps its output devices working continuously for the lowest distortion, but it runs hot and draws more power. Class AB blends Class A behaviour at low levels with far greater efficiency at higher output, which is why it anchors so many quality integrateds like the Audiolab 6000A. Class D switches very quickly for high efficiency, cool running, and compact, often high-power designs. Modern examples of all three can sound excellent.
How Much Power Do You Need?
Match the amplifier to your speakers' sensitivity and impedance, not to the biggest number on the box. Efficient speakers, around 90 dB and up, can sing on modest wattage, while lower-sensitivity or 4-ohm designs benefit from an amplifier with plenty of current and stable power delivery. Our solid-state integrateds span roughly 50 to 160 watts precisely because room size, speaker sensitivity, and listening level all factor in. Tell us your speakers and we will steer you to the right pairing.
